My history with fighting games
In addition to the many singleplayer games I really love, the genre of fighting games captivated me on a level previously unprecedented. I started playing Super Smash Bros. Melee with the intent to improve and compete when I was in high school. I learned to wavedash, I learned L-cancels, etc. After playing Melee for years, I met people in college that played traditional fighting games too. Once I started really learning fundamentals, I fell in love with the genre. The amount of depth present was like nothing I had ever encountered before. Melee giving my first taste of it, and later with traditional fighting games, I really was hooked on understanding the broad concepts of fighting games and eventually the micro stuff too in games I put time into. The two fighting games I have put the most effort into improving at are Melee and Strive by a decent margin. I don't really play either anymore these days, and most of my time in fighting games is playing old games I have never played before on Fightcade with friends.
If you play fighting games, or have never played before and want to get into them, feel free to add me on discord or email me. I'd be happy to give anyone recommendations, advice, or play games on fightcade. I am just spondulio on discord and you can email me at sponduliocity@gmail.com
If you haven't played fighting games because they are too intimidating, please set that aside and just try one that seems appealing to you. You really can't go wrong if you play with a friend or someone similarly inexperienced. I think everyone could get something out of fighting games, even players with no intention to ever take them seriously.
