Entry 21

Here it is!

The content update mentioned in my last entry is real! See? I have uploaded the scanned drawings I have made over the last month-ish and added gnossienne to the music page. I put it a decent bit down the page because I feel kind of neurotically opposed to having my most recent song at the top of the page, because I don't want it to be the first thing someone hears of mine. Especially if I don't think it is the best thing I have made, and even moreso in this case because this is a cover of a classical piece and not an original song. I also have a few new drawings I made digitally that I will add to this page and maybe some of them will take a permanent spot on the art page. It is the first time I have drawn digitally in quite a while.

I also added a test layout for CorreSpondence, the interview idea I pitched in the last entry. In case you are reading this but missed the last one, the idea is that I would interview other neocities webmasters and ask them about their experiences making their site, things that drive them creatively, and more, with questions custom-tailored to their site/interests. So far, I have not lined up the first interview, so it is very much still in the prep phase, but if you are interested in being interviewed, please let me know. Once all things are in place and I am fully prepared with the general questions and page layout, I think I'll put out a post on Neocities asking publicly if anyone is interested. Hopefully I get someone interested from that. This first interview is going to be the hardest to get someone on for, I think, because once I have at least one done, I will have something to point to and ask like, hey do you want to do one of these? But as of now, it probably seems nebulous and scary to volunteer for. With that all being said, any volunteers to be the first interview would be greatly appreciated, but I absolutely understand any hesitance to do so.

One thing I am not sure if I mentioned at all is that I was doing some testing a bit ago for potential changes to my homepage to make the page more adaptive to different size displays. I did some testing with the clamp function for the size of my elements, but the differences seemed negligible, so I never pushed them to the actual homepage. If you'd like to take a look, check it out here. Maybe this will work better for someone out there, but it looked almost the same to me, just with slightly different width on some elements. Did not really help with scaling issues very much. I have tested the site a bit on my phone, and on my crt tv, which is in a 4 by 3 aspect ratio. Mobile still looked terrible lol, but the crt looked almost the same, just a slight bit better maybe? Either way, maybe I will do some more testing, or even a redesign at some point in the future. My current layout has too much space for not enough content in my opinion. I still need to redo my about page, since the homepage just cannibalized all of its content.

Misc

Now that I have the neocities status report out of the way, here is some general stuff.

I have been watching a good deal more anime than usual. Finishing Lain really kicked off a new era for me watching anime. I have been watching One Piece as it airs, and same with My Hero: Viglantes. I have also been moving slowly through Cowboy Bebop for the first time. By far, the most engaging and meaningful anime experience I had recently though was watching the Evangelion rebuild movies. I tried watching 1.0 shortly after I finished The End of Evangelion, but I had a hard time watching it because it was so similar to the series. I decided to try again this week, and once I got to 2.0, it was smooth sailing. 3.0 and 3.0 + 1.0 were absolutely phenomenal experiences that reach nearly as great peaks as the original series/End of Evangelion. If you are a fan of EVA and have not seen these, please give them a chance.

P.S. I am literally foing back to edit this (rare!) because I forgot to mention that I watched Memories, a short film collection featuring three individual films. Of the three, the only one I distinctly want to talk about is Magnetic Rose, an absolutely stunning work, written by Satoshi Kon. This was the highlight of the three and probably the only one I would recommend. If you are into anime in space at all, check this out, it is well worth your time.

While I am having an anime rennaissance, my gaming is leaving so much to be desired. I have not been playing very much of anything and really have nothing on the horizon either. Short of doing unenthusiastic runs of roguelikes I have beaten into the ground, I don't really know what to do with my time these days.

Felt nice to do some heftier neocities editing today, hoe to do more soon. Eventually, I would love to make a page for my Rhythm Heaven custom remixes I have made, but they are not yet publicly available. I have made probably a dozen of them at this point, but I am not quite ready to release them yet, as they factor into a plan I have that is still a ways out.

That's all I have for you today. (Quite a bit actually!)
